PDG Ray King & Clair

Ray is a Past President of Kooringal Rotary Club and a past member of Lane Cove Rotary Club in Sydney.  He joined the Kooringal Rotary Club in 1991 and has held positions of Secretary, Bulletin Editor and Vocational Director.  He introduced the school based suicide prevention project in 1992 and the Rotary Careers Day project in 1994.  He was the recipient of the District Governor’s Trophy for 1994-1995.  Ray was District Secretary for 1995-1996, has served the Australian Rotary Health Research Committee and on the National Youth Science Forum Committee. The Wagga Wagga Kooringal Rotary Club named him a Paul Harris Fellow in 1996.  In 1997 he was awarded the Rotary Service Above Self Award by the Board of Directors of Rotary International for his work in youth suicide prevention.  He was appointed DG’s Assistant for 1998-1999.  He is a Senior Active of Kooringal Rotary Club, his former classification being Tertiary Education.
 
Ray trained as a school teacher, taught in country schools, worked with intellectually disadvantaged and behaviour problem children in an institutional setting, qualified as a registered psychologist, took up a lectureship at the University of Sydney in 1971, gained a doctorate through Cambridge, UK and at Ann Arbor, Michigan.Ray retired from Sydney University as Associate Professor and accepted a Visiting Professorship at Charles Sturt University in 1990.  He was made Honorary Professor in 1995.  He has travelled extensively overseas, written and edited a dozen books and acquired professional qualifications in social work, teaching and law.
 
Ray is a member of both the Board of the Riverina Conservatorium of Music and the Board of Trustees of the Regional Art Gallery and Vice-president of the Riverina Community College.  He was foundation Secretary of the Arts and Cultural Advisory Council, President of the Friends of the Regional Art Gallery and  Secretary of the Suicide Prevention Task Force.
 
Ray and Clare believe that 2000 and 2001 will be exciting and memorable years for Rotary and for Australia and they look forward to serving District 9700 as District Governor and wife.
